The rules behind it
- Resus (01870) is billed per 5 minutes or part, and always added to the level code in full.
- Billing the procedure instead puts it under the 50% rule with the level code: the greater fee in full, the lesser at 50%.
- Intubation, IO and other procedures central to the resus are included in 01870: bill one path or the other, never both.
- The level code's assessment time must fall outside the resus window. Resus needs a life-, limb- or sight-threatening situation and constant bedside care; chart start and end times.
- Only one doctor bills the level code. A second doctor compares full fees, with no 50% rule.
