MSP BillBudBilling a resuscitation that ends in intubation (01870 vs 01091)
The scenario
45M in DKA with soft BP. At bedside 22 min running the resus, then intubated. Night shift.
How to bill it
01870 resus × 5 units (22 min) = $157.80 + Level 3 night (01833) $186.43 = $344.23. Don't also bill the intubation; it's included in resus. The alternative is to bill the intubation instead of resus, but with a level code the 50% rule halves it (01091 $184.07 at 50% = $92.04), so L3 + intubation = $278.47. Resus wins here.What to watch for
Compare billing resus for the full time vs billing the intubation code separately. Remember that intubation is included in resus.
